| The DAIMONJI GOZAN OKURIBI festival |
| Okuribi is a fire lit to send the souls of deceased ancestors on their
way after they have returned to this world for the bon festival. In the
Daimonji Okuribi festival, 5 mountains (gozan) are used as the stage for
an okuribi of huge proportions. The festival starts at August 16 8:00 p.m.,
when fires are lit on Mt. Nyoigatake to form the Chinese character dai,
meaning "large". After this, more fires are lit separately on
each mountain to form different patterns. |

The "Toriigata" of Mt. Mandarayama, and Arashiyama Mantonagashi
At the same time as the okuribi fires of Daimonji Gozan are being lit,
paper lanterns are floated down the rivers. The torii represents a shrine. |

| Gomaki |
| A Goma tree has faith that the illness recovers, if their name and chronic
disease are described and it burns by hidoko(firebed). 15 day (5:00a.m.
- 8:00 p.m.) and 16 days (5:00a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) It is receiving by mind
Nosho of Ginkakuji temple Monzen. The Matsuwariki (400 yen per) goma tree
constructed and burned to hidoko(firebed) (300 yen per). The goma tree
is received from [ on the morning of the 16th ] to around daytime also
in front of Kinkaku-ji Monzen Adashino Nenbutsu-ji, Nishi Kamo and the
Saifo-ji. |
